Fire threat dampened

Rain has dropped the forest fire hazard to “low” across the entire Northwest Region, the Ministry of Natural Resources reported late yesterday.
There was one new fire in the Fort Frances District yesterday, located at the north end of Quetico Provincial Park near one of the entry stations.

Fort Frances Fire #68 currently was classed as “under control” at 0.3 hectares in size.
The MNR continues to monitor five other fires in Quetico Park as they work to renew the park’s ecosystem.
There currently are 26 active fires across the Northwest Region.
Nipigon District has the highest number, managing nine fires, while Fort Frances District has six.
Meanwhile, a four-person FireRanger crew from Fort Frances returned today from Minnesota, where they’ve been deployed for most of this month.
A replacement crew was expected to be deployed there today.
