Mom fends off man with knife

A male is facing several charges in connection with an incident Sunday afternoon near the Legion Park here.
A Fort Frances woman called 9-1-1 to report she had been threatened by a man with a knife while out for a walk with her two children around 4:30 p.m.

An investigation revealed the woman was crossing the street onto the sidewalk when she was approached by a male on a bicycle, who became verbally aggressive and uttered several threats.
During the incident, the male produced a knife and held it to her neck area. But the woman fought off the male and he fled the area.
The woman and her children were not injured.
Police patrolled the community extensively with the assistance of Treaty #3 Police Service and located the male around 6:05 p.m.
Benjamin Budge, 36, of no fixed address, was charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
He currently is in custody at the Fort Frances District Jail.
He is scheduled to appear in provincial court here Oct. 15.
