Local fire crew off to Minnesota

Meanwhile, six new fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region by yesterday evening.
Fort Frances Fire #59 was reported in the south end of Quetico Provincial Park. This 1.0-hectare, lightning-caused blaze was reported by fire dispatch in the U.S.
It currently is listed as “being observed.”
Two of the new fires were in Kenora District while the other three were in Nipigon District.

As Minnesota deals with an escalated fire situation, Ontario yesterday sent one four-person FireRanger crew from Fort Frances Fire Management Headquarters to assist in their initial attack response to new fires.
The MNR said rain and higher relative humidity levels have eased the forest fire hazard to “low” in most parts of the Northwest Region, except the south and southeast, which has a “moderate” fire hazard.
