Beware of scam: OPP

Thunder Bay OPP would like to warn the public about a possible scam that may be occurring in the area.
On Sunday, two separate incidents were reported in the Nipigon area and the Thunder Bay area on Highway 11/17.

In the Nipigon area, a female flagged down a passing motorist claiming she had ran out of gas.
The woman advised the assisting motorist that she had jewellery that she would exchange for money.
In the Thunder Bay area, the same type of incident occurred, but it was a male who flagged down a motorist and made the same offer.
In that incident, the male had stated the ring he was willing to exchange for money was worth $800.
The ring later was found to be fake.
The male and female claimed to be of Turkish descent, and were seen driving a dark-coloured vehicle (possibly a green Audi).
This type of incident also has been reported to other police services and OPP detachments in the Northwest region.
Police advise the public to be cautious and wary when someone makes an offer that seems to good to be true.
