Lakers to open season on road

The Fort Frances Lakers now know the path that lies before them if they are to capture the Bill Salonen Cup next spring.
The SIJHL released its 2012-13 regular-season schedule Friday evening, which has the Lakers opening their campaign in Hoyt Lakes on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. against the rebranded Minnesota Iron Rangers

The Iron Rangers were known as the Iron Range Ironheads last season.
The Lakers then will hold their home-opener two nights later when they host the Minnesota Wilderness at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena in a rematch of last year’s SIJHL final.
After spending the last two seasons playing out of Spooner, Wis., the Wilderness relocated to Cloquet, Mn. during the off-season due to the pending sale and possible closure of the arena in Spooner.
All seven teams in the SIJHL will play 56 games this season, which includes the annual league “showcase” event slated for Dec. 21-23 in Duluth, Mn.
