Plane crash being probed

On Sunday at approximately 2:00 p.m., officers with Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to an airplane crash on Pelican Lake.
A Cessna operated by Slate Falls Airways containing a pilot and four passengers crashed shortly after take-off from Pelican Lake on a sight-seeing flight over Sioux Lookout.

The rapid response by Emergency Services, citizens and Slate Falls Airways employees assisted in getting everyone to safety.
All occupants of the aircraft sustained minor injuries and were treated and released from Meno Ya Win Health Centre.
The Transportation Safety Board assisted by the Sioux Lookout detachment of the OPP is continuing the investigation.
In other police news, preliminary statistics indicate that a total of five people died on roads and waterways patrolled by the OPP this past Civic Holiday Long Weekend.
Over the weekend, four persons were killed in three separate collisions on OPP-patrolled roads throughout the province and one person died in a marine incident.
Sadly, the tragic loss of life over the long weekend marks a 26 percent increase in fatalities, bringing the number of deaths up to 211 compared to 168 this same time last year.
