Wolves ousted from playoffs

There will be a new champion in the Rainy River District Fastball League this season.
The Sight & Sound Wolves, winners of the last two league titles, saw their reign end last night as they fell 12-2 to the Stratton Eagles, eliminating them from further contention in the double knock-out format.

Sight & Sound, who entered the playoffs as the sixth-place team from the regular season, had lost their playoff opener to the 11th-place Sabaskong Cubs on July 24.
But they stayed alive with a 17-3 thrashing of the Couchiching Raiders this past Tuesday evening.
In the other elimination game last night, 10th-place Manitou Thunderbirds upset the ninth-place Northwest Bay Chieftains 14-2.
On the winner’s side of the bracket, meanwhile, the top two teams from the regular season remained unbeaten in the playoffs with victories last night.
First-place Big Grassy Braves earned a 5-1 win over the fourth-place Rainy River Royals while second-place Beef’s Warriors topped the third-place Barwick Blue Knights 8-7.
The Braves and Warriors next will go head-to-head next Thursday night in Big Grassy, with the winner earning a spot into the final.
Other playoff action will resume Tuesday in the bottom half of the bracket, when Barwick takes on Stratton while Rainy River hosts Manitou.
The winners of those two games then will meet next Thursday while the losers are eliminated.
