Great new vendors at farmers’ market
Friday, 20 July 2012 - 1:18pm
Returning this week is Quetico Cakes from Atikokan.
Aniela-Jane Hannaford is an amazingly talented cake-maker. Her creations are true art forms and just as tasty!
There will be vanilla-, chocolate-, and pink lemonade-flavoured cupcakes at the market for sale and Quetico Cakes also will be taking orders for specialized party cakes.
Another great idea for entertaining!
As always, the farmers’ market offers the freshest local produce in Rainy River District. Every week we have vegetables home-grown by A.G.’s Produce, Gerbers, Baumans, Nighswanders, and Eberleys.
Most recently, the market has seen carrots, beans, peas, zucchini, beets, Swiss chard, kale, and new potatoes.
Plan your pickling projects beginning this weekend. Bruce Bauman will be selling pickling cucumbers from his garden.
If pickling is not your forte, purchase some homemade preserves from Eberleys or Melissa’s Kitchen.
Meanwhile, new in the market consignment booth is hand-knitted items by Fort Frances resident Kathy Dolph.
There are adorable, cuddly baby accessories in many colours. Choose from baby slippers, socks, hats, and sweaters.
There also is a great selection of patterned dish cloths.
The market also would like to invite you to celebrate Canada Food Day with us on Aug. 4.
Promoted by culinary activist Anita Stewart, Canada Food Day encourages consumers to purchase only Canadian-grown foods.
There will be more information about this event coming in the next few weeks.
Located on McIrvine Road just north of Canadian Tire, the market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
