Cross-Canada walk challenge in the works

October is just around the corner and so is “Healthy Workplace Month.”
While the local Northwestern Health Unit will not be hosting a workplace walking challenge this fall, district workplaces still can sign up for the virtual “Walk Across Canada Workplace Challenge” at www.workplacewalks.ca

Like last year’s walk here, the goal of the challenge is to get workplaces to log how many hours their employees walk, run, or otherwise exercise between Oct. 4-31, and see how far they make it across a virtual map of Canada starting from Vancouver Island.
Workplaces that register for the challenge before Oct. 4 will be eligible to receive a set of pedometers for their workplace.
As well, the local health unit has sets of pedometers available to loan to workplaces, although they do require a $10 deposit.
