Season opens at Emo Speedway
Wednesday, 27 May 2009 - 1:54pm
Defending WISSOTA Modified champ Greg Ferris picked up where they left off last season, edging Gavin Paull in the feature race.
He also won his heat ahead of Dwayne Pihulak while Ken Anderson took the second heat ahead of Paull.
Scott Messner of Bemidji, Mn., a perennial contender in the Street Stocks, earned the checkered flag in that division while Tridell Champlin of Deer River, Mn. claimed the opening weekend win in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds.
Champlin came from the back of the pack, through lapped traffic, to beat Chuck Lambert in the feature after finishing third in his heat behind Kendal Gamsby and Ken Anderson.
A decent crowd took in the opening weekend on an otherwise good day of weather for a May race.
“It was a good crowd for a season-opener, more than we had expected,” association president Anthony Leek said.
“Usually the larger crowds are not until the school year is complete,” he noted.
Results were as follows:
•WISSOTA Modifieds (feature)—1. Greg Ferris 2. Gavin Paull 3. Brady Caul
•Street Stocks (feature)—1. Scott Messner 2. Don Bowman 3. Tylar Wilson
•WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds (feature)—1. Tridell Champlin 2. Chuck Lambert 3. Ken Anderson
Racing will go again this Saturday (May 30), in conjunction with the Emo Walleye Classic, beginning at 7:30 p.m. (weather permitting).
