Catholic board to get budget update tonight

The Northwest Catholic District School Board is scheduled to get a preliminary budget update for the 2009-10 school year at its regular monthly meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. via teleconference in the St. Francis School library.
So far, the proposed budget projects a balance with revenues and expenditures of $16,571,617, with the board using a classroom reserve transfer of $6,43,626 to balance the budget.

Budget recommendations made by administration include such things as reducing the implementation of “Smartboard” technology and deferring the replacement of computer equipment.
Further minor changes still are expected to be made, with a finalized budget expected to be presented to the board for approval at its June 20 meeting.
As part of the strategic planning report, of which the budget is a part, the board also will be looking at board values, strategic direction, and operational strategic areas, as well as program and student achievement.
The final operational review report, compiled by the Ministry of Education, also will be presented to the board tonight.
These operational reviews have been occurring at school boards across the province as a way to evaluate each board’s governance, financial management, human resource management, and school operations.
The complete review is available for the public online at www.tncdsb.on.ca
Also up for approval tonight is the board’s meeting schedule for 2010.
The board also will present Our Lady of the Way School in Stratton with a recognition of excellence for its family literacy nights.
