New Robert Moore School plans finalized

In total, there will be 10 junior/intermediate classrooms, seven primary classrooms, and four Junior/Senior kindergarten classes.
Other rooms will include two computer labs, a special education room, music/stage room, healing/reading room, library, and a 52’ x 90’ gymnasium.
The new school will be built on the same lot as the current one on Second Street East, but at a different location.
Upon completion of the new school, the old one will be demolished.
Since some board staff also are currently located the school, the existing gymnasium will be renovated to accommodate them.
Plans for the new school arose after both Robert Moore and F.H. Huffman were deemed “prohibitive to repair,” meaning it would cost more to repair a school than to rebuild it completely.
Following the F.H. Huffman accommodation review, it was decided Huffman would be consolidated with Robert Moore into one school.
Staff
Layout and floor plans for the new Robert Moore School have been finalized following the most recent meeting of the building committee on Dec. 15.
The new Robert Moore School will be roughly 51,000 square feet in size, and be built to accommodate 480 students.

Good Afternoon, My name is Ronald Gary Martin, and I was a student of Robert Moore School, and proud of it.
Presently I am will be 64 years of age , and happily retired from 28 years of service as the head custodian of an elementary school here in Winnipeg MB. I had many wonderful growing up years in that building. Still remember the ink wells, [ they used to dry out ] the lift up desk tops or slide your material inside the desk. Of course in every classroom was a picture of the Queen and the British flag, and world globe. I think it would be nice to see the cast iron desk frames and lift up bench chairs, they did not break like the furniture nowadays. and of course fastened to the hard wood floors on rails.
I asked for permission to do a walk through , brought back many fine memories, the black wire cage effect of the coat racks outside the classrooms. One of my teachers was a Mrs Peters , i had her for kindergarten, we all had our roll up mats for an afternoon snooze. My sister Linda had Mrs Letherdale for Kindergarten. Mr and Mrs Stuart taught history and mathematics, had fun at Mr Stuarts square dancing classes,then went for cokes to the Mill[ I think ], Behind the school on the north side is a very low set of windows that looked into the gym, in the winter time we would schoufle our feet making this area very slippery.At the north west corner of the property was our skating rink along with the wooden shack and the very hot cast iron stove, we were called central in those days when i played hockey for the Clinic Pharmacey.
One of the things i could never understand was when it was time for lunch my sister and I had to go home which was just this side of Central Avenue and we lived @ 125 Second Street.
Anyway, hope you enjoy this little romp through the woods. Would like to return one day. I think the present building faces South -East ? when the new school is built will it face east ?or same location , just further back ?
It has been a pleasure reading about this as i get the "Times " on the PC.
I would really appreciate a follow up on the new building and the demolition of the old if pictures and literature is available.
