Muskie girls beat Broncos again

Jessie Baker had four goals to spark the Muskie girls’ hockey team to a convincing 7-2 victory over the Kenora Broncos here Tuesday night.
Lindsay Roehrig netted the lone goal of the first period, but the low-scoring affair didn’t last long into the second as Baker scored her first just 15 seconds into the middle frame.

Kenora struck right back just over a minute later as Miranda Moncrief converted a Brittany Sherred pass to close the gap to 2-1.
But Baker scored twice more in a span of four minutes, then Kristen Penner and Carlee Bosma netted singles for a 6-1 Muskie lead before the period was even half over.
Bronco captain Kelsey Craven replied late in the period to make it 6-2 at the second intermission.
Baker rounded out the scoring with a power-play marker in the third as the Muskies beat Kenora for the second-straight game after opening the season with a 2-1 overtime loss to the Dryden Eagles.
“Yes, as a coaching staff, we were really happy with the full team effort,” Muskie coach Chris Hill lauded.
“We have been working with the girls on a regular basis about positioning and forechecking in the offensive end of the ice,” he noted. “We have also been stressing backchecking and working with the defence on shorting the gap.
“It was a good game as a lot of the concepts we worked on in practice were utilized on game night,” Hill added.
