B93 settling into new digs

After being in their new location at 210 Scott St. for just a couple of days now, the staff at B93 fm are settling in to their new environment.
“It’s really nice. We’re really enjoying it,” said morning host Jenni Condon.

“I’m extremely excited about it,” echoed station manager Leo Melanson, who also is the group production manager for Northwoods Broadcasting.
But he noted their recent move from 242 Scott St. was more than just a location change—they wanted to build new studios.
“We want to give people the best tools we can for them to work with, and I think we’ve certainly done that,” Melanson remarked, noting plenty of new technology was added to the new studio.
For example, a new, state-of-the-art “on air” system was introduced, as well as a computerized news gathering system.
“We now have the capability to be a completely paperless station if we want to, which can be very good,” he explained.
Melanson also said the layout of the second-floor facility is beneficial. “Everything flows,” he noted. “It’s laid out perfectly for our purposes.”
And the windows in the building make the offices much brighter and welcoming.
Some minor renovations were required on the building before staff moved it, including building a wall and a sound-proof booth.
They even had some furniture, such as the table in the “on air” studio and the reception desk, built locally especially for the new building.
Melanson said they began making the move last week.
“It was a relatively quick move,” he said, noting they didn’t want to bring too much over while the contractors were still working.
“But everything went just fine. As fine as anything can go when you’re dealing with technology,” he added, although noting in some ways it was difficult to change locations.
“They were in the previous location for over 40 years,” he remarked. “So there was a lot of history. And a lot of stuff.”
Because B93 is only using the second floor of the building, Melanson indicated the first floor is still available for lease from Commercial Properties.
He also indicated they will be holding an open house sometime in May so people can check out the new facility.
“Once we get everything completely done, we’ll give everyone the chance to see the new studios,” he said.
