Legion honours members

Nearly 100 individuals and businesses were recognized at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 and Legion Ladies Auxiliary’s honours and awards ceremony here Saturday afternoon.
After opening ceremonies, ladies auxiliary members were handed pins for their many years of service.

Clora McEvoy, Jane McLeod and Verenia Zucchiatti received pins for 55 years of service while Joan Taylor, Matilda Clarke, and Emily Munro were recognized for 50 years.
Edla Orwick, Martha Rogozinski, and Grace Angus received pins for 45 years while Mary Ducharme, Gladys Martin, Joanne Gosselin, Gwen Westover, Kay Boucher, Eileen Calder, and Maggie Clarke got theirs for 40 years of service.
Jane Voutt, Meryle Ogden, Florence Hill, Johan Lockman, Lyla Norris, and Elsie Wihnan were presented pins for 25 years.
Legion ladies auxiliary president Silvia Gunderson noted that in December, local members Nancy Shaw and Laura McConnell received their 65- and 60-year pins, respectively.
Next up, the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 gave out pins for years of service.
Metro Badiuk, Jean Camirand, Adelard Gladu, Peter Fylkow, and Archie McClendon got pins for 60 years of service while David Bliss, Joe Bliss, Merdo Krawchuk, Gordon McTaggart, Victor Lindholm, Peter Oak, and Leon Wells were recognized for 50 years.
Roy Mills and Art Scheirer received pins for 45 years of service, with Harry Bell, Gordon Calder, Henry Jones, Lyle Hyatt, Gordon Legarie, Kenneth Martin, James McInnis, Kenneth Shaw, and Sidney Ward getting pins for 35 years.
Heather Arsenault, Allen Heskins, Dale Lind, Kenneth Oliver, J.G. Ring, Ellen Swing, Fred Sus, James Tabak, and Ellis Williams got pins for 30 years of service while Francis Auger, George Supinski, Albert Truelove, and Robert Wood got pins for 25 years.
Mary Holland, Gerald Lambert, Norris Langtry, Kenneth Noble, Lyle Turgeon, and Keith Watson were awarded pins for 20 years of service.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to Robert Bagacki, Ed Bogacki, Jeannette Cawston, Lucas Cawston, Bob Chabot, John Chornabay, Ken Desjardins, Bob Dryland, Donald Easton, Ed Haglund, Heather Hatch, Bruce Henry, Gerry Hoffman, and George Jordan.
Steve Mainville, James Marr, Mable McArthur, Marg McPherson, Ronald Mondor, Dianna Nixon, Norm Olson, Robin Read, Ann Watson, Ray Watson, Calvin Williamson, Gerald Wood, and Norman Wood also were given certificates of appreciation.
Wal-Mart, Taylor International, Superintendent of Parks and Cemeteries Bill Caul, and Robin’s Donuts were recognized for helping out the Legion in various ways in recent years.
Meanwhile, the Veterans of Foreign Wars from International Falls was given a “Friendship Award” for supporting the Legion Colour Party and attending Legion functions, as well as inviting local Legion members to its functions.
