Emergency number to be discontinued
Wednesday, 29 August 2007 - 2:35pm
The old emergency number (274-3111) had remained in effect as a kind of “back-up” number.
But as of the end of September, 9-1-1 will be the only number to call.
“I don’t want to give the message that the number’s changing. It’s been changed for some time for most of us,” said Chief Armstrong. “It’s just that the line that we’ve been leaving there as a back-up is being discontinued.”
He added there’s a select few areas, like Miscampbell Township, that do not have 9-1-1 service and no fire protection service. In case of emergency, they have to call the ambulance and OPP phone numbers directly.
Any district residents with questions regarding this service are advised to contact their local municipal office.

Fire Chief Gerry Armstrong explained Friday that nearly all municipalities between and including Watten Township and the Town of Rainy River are now provided with 9-1-1 service.

Why is it that the surrounding townships have 9-1-1 access, but Miscampbell does not?
