The Borderland Thunder’s showdown in Dryden last night was postponed due to poor road conditions—the second time in a week the team has had to miss a road game.
Team officials and their bus service decided it wouldn’t be a good idea to attempt the drive up Highway 502 based on the winter storm warning which had been issued for the area.
A make-up date has yet to be announced.
The Thunder’s first game of a three-day swing in Thunder Bay last Friday was postponed when a fatal accident closed the Trans-Canada Highway near Shabaqua.
The first-place Ice Dogs (13-5-4) next travel to Grand Rapids, Mn. to face the Iron Range Yellow Jackets, making a possible make-up date this weekend unlikely.
Meanwhile, the third-place Thunder (10-7-5), who have no SIJHL action scheduled this weekend, will head to Atikokan on Saturday for an exhibition game against the Thunder Bay ‘AAA’ Midget Kings.
The match was requested by the Kings last weekend as they, like the Thunder, have a break in their schedule.
In related news, the SIJHL has announced its player-of-the-month awards for November. Dryden goalie Ryan McGillis earned defensive honours while Thunder Bay KC Bulldogs winger Brian Dzijack was named top offensive player.
McGillis leads the SIJHL in save percentage (.914) and goals against average (2.75) as the Ice Dogs went 5-1-1 for the month.
Dzijack tallied 17 points in seven November games to help lead the Bulldogs to a 4-3 record.
