The Fort Frances Jr. Sabres jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, then coasted to a 7-2 win over the still-winless Sioux Lookout Flyers here Friday night.
Brendan Baumgartner, with two goals and an assist, and Chris Sinclair (two assists) added to their league-leading point totals while linemate Carson Dubchak added three assists as the Sabres reeled off their sixth-straight win after opening the SIJHL season with four losses.
“Everybody’s been chipping in every now and then. If one line doesn’t get anything done, then the next line does,” Baumgartner said afterwards.
“Everybody is playing solid right now and we’ve just got to keep it going,” he stressed.
Gabe Capozzi opened the scoring on a one-handed effort off a pass from Kyle Turgeon, then Baumgartner was set up on back-to-back goals by Dubchak in the slot.
Turgeon added a goal on a deflected point shot by Patrick Bobczynski before Mitch Cain rounded out the first-period scoring on another nifty feed from Dubchak.
“They’ve been feeding [me] all the time,” Baumgartner said of Sinclair and Dubchak. “Maybe I should be getting more, but a couple here and there is good enough.
“They’re good linemates to have,” he added. “I think we are one of the top lines in the league and if we keep it up, I think we’ll be all over every other team.”
Sabres’ defenceman Mario Boivin added a pair of second-period goals before Ian Alcock finally got the Flyers on the scoreboard.
Spencer Gyori netted the lone goal of the third period to round out the scoring.
The Sabres now go on the road for four games, including three in three nights beginning Wednesday (Oct. 22) against the Fort William North Stars.
