Petes capture Bantam ‘AAA’ provincial crown

The Peterborough Petes captured this year’s Kobe Cup, downing the Mississauga Reps 5-2 in the final Sunday afternoon at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay.

Peterborough advanced to the final with a 3-2 win over the host Thunder Bay Kings, the defending Bantam provincial champs, in one semi-final contest Saturday while Mississauga blanked North Bay 1-0 in the other.

Thunder Bay won the bronze-medal game 5-4 over North Bay.

Mississauga breezed through the six-game round-robin in top spot with a 5-0-1 record while Peterborough finished third at 4-2 mark.

Thunder Bay finished the round-robin in second place at 4-1-1, followed by North Bay (3-2-1), Ottawa (2-4), Brantford (1-4-1), and the Dryden Hornets (0-6).

The Hornets, featuring several district players, opened action by dropping a 17-2 decision to Thunder Bay last Tuesday, then followed that with losses to Ottawa (7-6), North Bay (4-1), and Brantford (7-1).

They closed out the tournament with an 11-2 loss to Peterborough and a 14-5 drubbing at the hands of Mississauga.
