Mikhail leads local runners

Category:

Dr. Pierre Mikhail led a strong contingent of local runners in Walker, Mn. last Saturday, finishing his first-ever marathon in an impressive time of 3:38.

That time placed him second in his age group while battling the tough course conditions of the race. Runners estimated the 26.2-mile course added about “15 to 20 minutes” to each runner’s final time.

Other local runners also did quite well. Don DeBenedet and Lorne Ricard teamed up to finish third overall in the marathon relay, clocking a time of 3:07.

On the women’s side, Doris Barton and Kerri Tolen combined to finish second overall, finishing with a time of 3:48.

Several runners from here also participated in the 10km run as part of the marathon.

Jason Kabel, running in his first 10k run, placed third in his age group after finishing with a time of 48 minutes.

Connie Badiuk also placed third in her age group, clocking a time of 51.20 minutes.

Bob Tkachuk, also running his first race, finished at 51.50 while Wayne Maxwell recorded a time of 1:14.

Barton and Tolen are expected to run in the half-marathon in Thunder Bay this weekend while Ricard is preparing for the Twin Cities marathon in Minneapolis next month. He will also be running in his first New York City marathon in November.
