The Muskie junior girls’ basketball team participated in a tournament in Thunder Bay over the weekend.
They opened action with a tight game against Churchill, with the Muskies taking a 17-14 lead at halftime. But co-coach Dan Bird said foul trouble and turnovers turned the tide in Churchill’s favour as they went on to a 37-25 victory.
Chelsea Hill led the Muskie attack with 10 points while Erika Moffitt added six.
The black-and-gold then faced NorWOSSA rival Dryden and won 30-25 in a match in which Bird said the girls put forth a collective team effort.
Sara Roach led the way with eight points and once again was solid in her own end defensively.
Fort High then faced the Hillcrest Colts in the consolation final. The Colts led 18-17 at the break, but a minor change in defensive alignment and hard work led to a convincing 44-22 win for the Muskies.
“A solid team effort on both ends of the court earned the win,” Bird noted.
Roach netted 12 points while Chelsea Audette led the team in rebounding.
