Competing in their first-ever cheerleading meet, the Muskie junior squad stole the show at a four-team showdown at Maples Collegiate High School in Winnipeg on Sunday.
The Muskies, the only team from outside Manitoba, scored an impressive 326 total points to finish first, well ahead of the second-place team which ended up with 284 points.
The Muskies were the only team from outside of Manitoba competing in the one-day event.
“The girls were a bit nervous but they overcame their nerves when they got out there and started performing,” said junior co-coach Melissa Hagen, a former senior cheerleader herself.
“The girls did really, really well. The coaches are really proud of them,” she enthused.
Hagen, who is helped out by co-coach Melissa Gushulak, said the girls performed a “really clean” three-and-a-half minute routine, which featured a series of dances, stunts, and cheers.
Team members included Stephanie Mattson, Sammie Pearson, Mallory Chowhan, Christina McCoy, Summer Struve, Shanna Calder, Sarah Angus, Ashley Sisco, Heather Soderholm, Tracy DeAmicis, Miranda Miller, Jennifer Grozelle, Hope Wilson, and Whitney Guimond.
