Gypsies tops again

Sixteen teams vied for the championship of the 25th-annual Drew McKelvie mixed broomball tournament over the weekend at the Ice for Kids Arena.
In the end, it came down to two Minneapolis teams facing off for the coveted trophy.
The now five-time champion Minnesota Gypsies defeated the “No Bull” team by a score of 2-0 in a very close and well-played game.
The Gypsies made it to the final by beating the Warriors (Kenora) and the Patricia Inn Predators (Dryden), and then very narrowly getting by Kenora Print Gear in overtime in the semi-finals.
The ‘B’ side, meanwhile, was won by Jabronies (Thunder Bay) while the ‘D’ was taken by Anthony’s Automotive (Atikokan).
The only local entry—the North Air Chill—was beaten 3-1 in the ‘C’ final by the Ice Dogs (Thunder Bay).
The local entry played well and Marilyn Romanetz scored three times in the tournament for the Chill.
Other standouts for the local team were Casey Grant and Brian Smith.
