Emo welcomed Thunder practice

The Borderland Thunder held an hour-long practice at the Emo Arena on Sunday as they get ready to resume their SIJHL semi-final series tonight and Thursday in Thunder Bay against the KC Bulldogs.
A public skate with the Thunder players followed.
“This is an exciting experience to have the [Borderland] Thunder practice at the Emo Arena,” said Emo Coun. Ken Fisher.
“It gives our kids the kind of enthusiasm it needs for them to get into the game and make it worthwhile, especially when skating with the Thunder players,” he noted.
About five members of the team, including assistant coach Shane Bliss, have their roots in Emo.
Bliss learned his hockey through the local Emo-Devlin-Barwick Minor Hockey Association system before graduating to the Muskies during high school.
He also played briefly with a junior team in Thunder Bay as well as with the Yorkton Terriers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Bliss also coached while attending university in Thunder Bay.
Having held executive positions with the EDBMHA for more than 13 years, I know firsthand that Emo is familiar with the Fort Frances leagues, playing exhibition games and tournaments against each other during the season.
It is good to see these relationships still continue with several of our players on ‘AA’ teams in the Fort. I think it brings our communities together.
