Canadians struggle against Shattuck

The Fort Frances Canadians faced a stiff test over the weekend here against Shattuck-St. Mary’s in Midget ‘AA’ hockey action.

Shattuck proved its superiority with a 10-2 win Saturday and then an 8-0 victory Sunday morning.

After the visitors jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period Saturday, Cole Calder got one back for the Canadians in the second on a pass from Tyson McLean.

But Shattuck added two more goals before the end of the period to lead 5-1 after 40 minutes.

They added three more early in the third before Jeff Gustafson finished off a Brett Bodnarchuk feed to close the deficit to 8-2.

Shattuck-St. Mary’s rounded out the scoring with two more goals.

Kyle Lee had two goals and two assists in Saturday’s win, then added two more goals and an assist in Sunday’s victory.

The Canadians host their second-annual “Gus Lindberg Memorial” home tournament on Nov. 28-30.
