The Fort Frances Curling Club wants to increase the number of teams in its Thursday afternoon ladies’ league—but is having trouble generating interest.
As such, the club will host an open house tomorrow (Oct. 16) at 1 p.m. at the club, which is aimed at showing potential female curlers what the club—and the sport—have to offer.
Club committee member Tom Fry will be offering a free one-hour clinic for those new to the sport, and a four-end game will follow so those interested will have a chance to try it for themselves.
“We have five teams right now, so it’s not like we’re in trouble, but the girls want us to get more because they get tired of playing each other all the time,” Fry noted.
“I’d like to get at least one more [team], but we’re hoping we’ll get some interest by offering this special event.”
The clinic is aimed at amateur curlers or those who have been out of the game for a while, although Fry said anyone with an interest is welcome.
“[The league] has been going for a while, but it’s been dropping off over the last couple of years so we’re trying to give it a boost,” Fry explained.
