Aquanauts make waves at season-opening meet

The Fort Frances Aquanauts Swim Team opened their competitive season Saturday at the Dryden Dolphins Open.

“For the first meet of the season, it was really good,” Aquanauts’ head coach Dawnn Taylor enthused.

“We had lots of first-timers, but it was a great meet for a starter meet for our younger kids who had never swam in one before,” she added. “We paired them up with one of our senior swimmers so they were shadowed the whole day, and everyone was cheering for everybody.

“It was a great team event.”

The results were as follows:

•Anika Beaudry—50m free (9th, 54.09), 100m free (2nd, 2:05:30), and 50m back (9th, 59.82);

•Andre Emond—50m free (6th, 33.89), 100m back (1st, 1:25:87), and 50m back (1st, 38.87);

•Krista Emond—50m free (5th, 32.34), 100m breast (1st, 1:32:88), and 50m back (4th, 40.08);

•Justis Gauthier—50m free (6th, 1:00:04) and 50m back (5th, 1:11:39);

•Whitney Gouin—50m free (4th, 1:15:46) and 50m back (5th, 1:27:05);

•Jillian Gustafson—50m free (6th, 32.70), 100m back (1st, 1:21:86), and 50m back (4th, 40.10);

•Kassidy Ledrew—50m free (8th, 50.76) and 50m back (8th, 59.08);

•Levi Rittau—50m free (3rd, 35.26), 100m free (2nd, 1:20:84), and 50m back (3rd, 45.79);

•Sarah Rittau—50m free (5th, 1:20:39) and 50m back (4th, 1:20:45);

•Caitlin Sande—50m free (2nd, 31.27), 100m fly (1st, 1:20:04), and 50m back (2nd, 39.04);

•Adam Stromberg—50m free (1st, 33.50), 100m free (1st, 1:20:50), and 50m back (2nd, 45.46);

•Katja Sutherland—50m free (8th, 34.68), 100m breast (3rd, 1:37:42), and 50m back (8th, 42.96);

•Donovan Taylor—50m free (1st, 26.83) and 100m breast (1st, 1:19:14);

•Cole Trimble—50m free (1st, 1:35:13) and 50m back (1st, 1:51:18); and

•Tayla Trimble—50m free (10th, 1:31:21) and 50m back (10th, 1:31:02)

The Aquanauts had 33 personal bests on the day.

In other news, Donovan Taylor is off to a major swim meet in Brantford, Ont. on Nov. 5.

As well, five Aquanauts have qualified for a meet in Winnipeg in early December, with the club looking to qualify five more during their next meet Nov. 15-16 in Kenora.
