Volunteer speakers’ bureau now up and running

Speaker’s Bureau Northwest is a volunteer service extended to the elementary and secondary schools in Northwestern Ontario.

Co-ordinated locally by the Northwest Training and Adjustment Board (“Passport to Prosperity”), the bureau will be managed through the newly-launched Employer Registry website, an initiative of the Ministry of Education.

Registration for the bureau occurs on the home page of www.employerregistry.ca and takes only a few minutes.

By providing an opportunity for business to connect with education, this program will allow local community members to positively influence students and generate interest in their field.

These volunteers are a wonderful addition to the classroom and greatly enrich the educational experience of our children.

With students being exposed to a variety of occupations, they are better equipped to set their own personal career goals.

Speaker’s Bureau Northwest is an excellent short-term experiential learning opportunity that allows business members who would like to be involved but lead busy lives.

It provides dynamic and enthusiastic community members the opportunity to:

•inspire local youth;

•connect with tomorrow’s workforce;

•assess the talent pool; and

•invest in the development of the future workforce.

As well as becoming a guest speaker in the classroom, speakers may be contacted for a variety of activities, such as career carousels, panel sessions, and career fairs.

Volunteers approached may accept requests whenever possible, and arrangements are made between the speaker and the teacher.
