The 2008 construction season of the Portage Avenue underpass is coming to an end.
As of yesterday afternoon, the east side retaining wall was to have been completely poured.
But some work still remains to be done, and next Monday through Sunday (Nov. 10-16) the underpass will be closed from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. so crews can safely remove the temporary steel piling (shoring) behind the newly-constructed east side retaining wall, Operations and Facilities manager Doug Brown said yesterday.
Asphalt also will be placed over the granular patches where the new storm sewer system was installed.
Weather will have a bearing on whether or not all this work will be completed within this time frame, warned Brown.
This section of Portage Avenue tentatively is scheduled to be back to normal, with two lanes of traffic, by Monday, Nov. 17.
The Town of Fort Frances wishes to the public in advance for their co-operation.
