Turn wood into gold

Category:

Although the idea of turning wood into gold may be a bit far-fetched, value-added wood products can be very profitable—and are ideal for Northern Ontario.

We have an abundance of renewable raw material, many skilled craftsmen, and an economy looking for entrepreneurs.

What we need is a way to put it all together and help guide the process along.

Do you want to know more about value-added wood products? Are you interested in learning about what it takes to be a successful business in the industry?

To get you started on the right track, the Northern Ontario Value Added Initiative (NOVA) will be presenting the seminar, “Creating Your Value-Added Wood Product in Northern Ontario,” in a community near you.

This seminar is designed to inform you about the important steps to establish your enterprise. Topics of discussion will include:

•what are value-added wood products;

•planning your business and who can help;

•walking the talk (three case studies of value-added wood products businesses;

•how NOVA can help you; and

•how you can help yourself.

The seminar will be held Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the Roadside Restaurant in Rainy River from 8-10 a.m. and then at Green’s Barbecue Bar in Nestor Falls from noon-2 p.m.

Then on Wednesday, Oct. 1, it will be held at the Emo Inn in Emo from 8-10 a.m. and at La Place Rendez-Vous in Fort Frances from noon-2 p.m.

NOVA is a program funded to create and stimulate economic development through value-added wood products.

It is funded by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, Ministry of Natural Resources, FedNor, and Natural Resources Canada’s Value to Wood program.

It is delivered through FP Innovations industry advisors based in Northern Ontario.
