No new forest fires were reported in the Northwest Region by yesterday evening.
Clearing weather will result in a “moderate” forest fire hazard in the south, a “moderate-high” hazard in the north, and a “high-extreme” hazard in the northeastern sector of Nipigon District, which has seen less rain than other areas.
There remain five active fires in the region, all of which are listed as “being observed.”
They are not expected to pose any problems.
A request for an incident management team for the Northwest Territories has been co-ordinated through the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre in Winnipeg.
Ontario was scheduled to send an eight-person team to Hay River today.
There already are two fire behaviour specialists from Ontario in Yellowknife while one air attack officer is returning to Ontario after completing an assignment there.
