Condo tender may be awarded today

The contract to construct the River Walk Condominium project on Front Street could be awarded today and then presented at tonight’s public meeting, Fort Frances CAO Bill Naturkach said.
The deadline for bids from companies vying to build the 32-unit complex was 2 p.m. today.
The Fort Frances Non-Profit Housing Committee was expected to examine them and possibly decide on a winning bid at a meeting later this afternoon, Naturkach noted.
The winning bid, or portions of the tender still under review, then will be presented at a public meeting at the Civic Centre at 7 p.m.
“There is a possibility the tender will be awarded, but at least we’ll be able to share information with interested stakeholders,” Naturkach said.
Naturkach said tonight’s meeting, which is open to anyone interested, is a chance for those purchasing a condo to ask specific questions about their unit.
“They can ask ‘Can I have my own cupboards?’ and the answer is ‘Yes you can,’” he said as an example.
The town currently has sold more than 20 of the 32 units.
Naturkach also said buyers still can expect to move in as planned on Oct. 1 2002, adding that awarding the tender seems to be getting everyone involved energized about the project.
“Everyone who spoke to me is really excited. It’s been over a year in the making from conception to brick and mortar,” he noted. “It’s pretty exciting it’s so close.”
