Chamber wants more nominees

Category:

With the deadline coming up next Wednesday (Oct. 15), the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce is reminding district residents to nominate a deserving individual or business for its annual awards gala.

“Well, I was kind of shocked when I looked at the calendar and realized the deadline was next week, as we only have about 15 [nomination forms] in right now and our goal is 100,” Chamber manager Dawn Booth said this morning.

“It’s typical because everybody does wait until the last minute, but we’ll see.

“I would really like to see people send in nomination forms,” she added, noting the more judges have to choose from, the better.

As it stands right now, among the 15 nominations received so far, several are for the same nominees in different categories.

Nomination forms for the business awards are available throughout the district, online at www.fortfranceschamber.com, or by calling the Chamber office at 274-5773.

Nomination forms also were faxed out to Chamber members yesterday.

“We really encourage people out there to pick up a pen and nominate a deserving business or individual,” said Booth.

Any business in Rainy River District can be nominated, and businesses do not have to belong to the Chamber to be eligible to win.

Nominations are being accepted in 11 different categories, including:

•Business of the Year—1-15 Employees (sponsored by B•93 FM);

•Business of the Year—16+ Employees (Bell);

•Employee of the Year (The Westend Weekly);

•Business Woman of the Year (Business Woman’s Network);

•Entrepreneur of the Year (Rainy River Future Development Corp.);

•Tony Beyak Memorial Volunteer of the Year Award (Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce);

•Customer Service-Business Award (Business Development Bank of Canada);

•Customer Service-Individual Award (Good Impressions Printing);

•Safety Award-Business or Individual (AbitibiBowater);

•Small Business Trainer of the Year (NCDS Career Works); and

•Accessibility Award (Town of Fort Frances).

A list of award nominees will be published in the Times after the nomination deadline elapses.

The 13th-annual Bell Business Awards banquet is set for Saturday, Nov. 8 at La Place Rendez-Vous.
