Court teams split with Dryden

The Muskie senior boys’ volleyball team came up with a spirited effort yesterday afternoon to take two of three games over the visiting Dryden Eagles.

After winning the first game 15-8, the Muskies dropped the next one 15-12 before battling back for a 15-9 victory in the rubber game.

‘Bees’ upbeat despite winless season

Despite finishing the 1997 season winless in six tries, including a 30-14 loss to Roseau here last Thursday, the Muskie ‘B’ football coaching staff was elated with the progress the team had made this year.

“The kids never gave up at all," noted head coach Bob Fryer. "We had our best game of the season [Sept. 30] and then we had our best game [against Roseau].”

Fastball league hands out awards

John Desaulniers and George Oltsher were the big individual winners Saturday night at the Rainy River District Fastball League’s annual banquet at the Emo Legion.

Desaulniers, a pitcher for the Pinewood Bears, took home the Jerry Harasymyk Memorial Trophy while Oltsher, manager of the Barwick Blue Knights, captured the Shane Jarvis Memorial Trophy.
