Petes capture Bantam ‘AAA’ provincial crown

The Peterborough Petes captured this year’s Kobe Cup, downing the Mississauga Reps 5-2 in the final Sunday afternoon at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay.

Peterborough advanced to the final with a 3-2 win over the host Thunder Bay Kings, the defending Bantam provincial champs, in one semi-final contest Saturday while Mississauga blanked North Bay 1-0 in the other.

Visserettes host Springfest ’98

The Visserettes hosted Springfest ’98 last weekend at the Fort Frances Gymnastics Academy, with 75 gymnasts competing from Red Lake, Thunder Bay, Sioux Lookout, Kenora, and here.

“It took us two days to compete and judge them all,” noted meet director Betty Grynol. “Our building is small but we manage well.”

Minor hockey awards handed out

The annual awards presentation and windup for local PeeWee house league players took place last Wednesday night at Memorial Arena.

Esso Medals of Achievement Awards for the Most Valuable Player went to Ryan Calder (Lions), Geoff Gerley (Kaemingh Esso), Dave Starling (Kentucky Colonels), and Ryan Smith (Law Association Sharks).
