SIJHL finalists announced

The SIJHL announced Friday the finalists for each of its individual awards for the 2018-19 regular season.

Voting for these honours was completed by each of the league's six-member clubs.

Out of these finalists, the winner of each individual honour will be announced over the course of the coming days leading up to the conclusion of the Bill Salonen Cup playoffs.

Tough going for Thunderhawks' rink at nationals

It was a tough outing for the Confederation College Thunderhawks' men's curling rink at the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association national curling championships that were held Friday through yesterday in Fredericton, N.B.

The rink, which includes former Muskies Kurtwood McGuire (skip) and Jason Bazylewski (second), went 0-7 to finish last in the eight-team field.

N. Stars dump Lakers

Keighan Gerrie, Jacob Brown, and Kyle Auger combined for nine points to pace the league-leading Thunder Bay North Stars to a 9-1 romp over the visiting Fort Frances Lakers on Tuesday night.

Thunder Bay (47-4-1-1) roared out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals by Maxime Fortin, Jayden Mrakic, and Ben Erwin.

Misfits nab title at Chiefs' tourney

The Emo Misfits scored with two minutes left in overtime to pull out a thrilling 4-3 win over the Fort Frances Chiefs in the final of the Chiefs' fourth-annual tournament that was held March 1-3 at “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena).

The Misfits opened the scoring with 51 seconds to go in the second period before striking again in the third to go ahead by two.
