Brandon Zajicek’s penchant for play-making cast him in a good light this past week—once he finally got credit for his work.
The Fort Frances Lakers’ defenceman had five assists in two games to earn the Play It Again Sports player-of-the-week award in the SIJHL, the first Laker to do so this season.
Zajicek originally didn’t get credit for any helpers in Saturday night’s 6-3 win over the visiting Thief River Falls Norskies.
But further examination of the game tape by league officials determined he actually set up three goals.
The 20-year-old from Albertville, Mn., the only Lakers’ blueliner to return from last year’s SIJHL champion squad, went his first seven games this season without a point.
But it’s been all systems go since then as Zajicek has at least one point in eight-of-nine games since his early-season drought.
Zajicek is in a four-way tie for first on the team with 11 assists as part of his overall total of 12 points in 16 games, which is tied for fifth among all SIJHL defencemen.
