Women’s spike league underway

The throne has been left unattended so a chance at ascending to royalty is available to all.

The Fort Frances Women’s Volleyball League kicked off its season last night at Fort High and St. Michael’s School with one notable absence beyond the 12 teams that hit the court.

Defending champion Kiss My Pass chose forego its shot at a repeat title, leaving a wide-open field to battle for the crown.

Longtime league stalwarts No Diggity and newcomers How I Set Your Mother both opened strong by earning the maximum six points available in their two matches.

That’s What She Set, another new team, had a strong debut with five points to land in third place.

I’d Hit That, coming off a last-place finish during the regular season, looked ready for redemption right off the bat by nabbing fourth place with four points.

Let’s Talk About Sets, Bump it Up, and Gillons’ tied for fifth with three points apiece while Scared Hitless and Wild Sets each picked up two points to sit knotted in eighth place.

Rockstars and new team We Could Carry Less had one point apiece to tie for 11th while Sloppy Sets was the lone team to get skunked.

Action resumes next Thursday (Sept. 24) at 7 p.m.
