Tennis tourney set to go here this weekend

Get your rackets out and head on down to the Multi-Use Tennis Courts here this weekend (Sept. 1-2).

The Fort Frances Multi-Use Tennis Courts committee will be hosting a tennis tournament on Saturday and Sunday for anyone interested.

Men's doubles will run on Saturday with singles going the following day.

“There's a possibility we can do mixed doubles or ladies, too, as long as we get enough teams,” said committee member and tournament organizer Al Christiansen.

“We'd like to see six teams in a division if it's doubles,” he added.

“If we only get six people for singles, then we'll just play a round-robin type of thing.”

Christiansen also noted that the committee would like to make the tournament an annual thing and that they would like to host more of them throughout the year.

“We might not always run the tournament this late in the year, though,” he noted.

“I know next year I want to have one earlier in the year, like June, and then have one a few weeks earlier than Labour Day because on Labour Day weekend you never know what you're going to get for weather.”

Christiansen also noted that he won't make an official format for this year's tourney until he knows just how many people will be playing.
