Fargo wasn't too far to go for a pair of Rainy River District fastball teams looking to rule the world.
The North American Fastpitch Association 'A' Major World Series begins today in Fargo, N.D., wrapping up on Sunday.
Representing the local area will be the Northern O Selects, featuring a selection of players from the Rainy River District Fastball League.
The Selects take on Pennsylvania's Elanco Blackhawks in their opener, with the winner moving on to play the winner of Washington's Lacey A's and Wisconsin's Stoneyard tomorrow at 9 a.m.
The other team will remain in the Winner's Bracket and play the loser of South Dakota's Crow Bar and Manitoba's Notre Dame Clubs tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Meanwhile, the four-team 23-Under Aug 11-13 Division of the NAFA World Series will start play tomorrow.
The Northern O Selects, with a few roster variations from the 'A' Major squad, will also be in that event and be in their first game tomorrow at 7 p.m. against Oregon's Northwest Braves, followed by a 9 p.m. clash with Missouri's Young Thunder Selects.
On Saturday, the Selects finish the round-robin portion of the event against Bowen FP (Illinois) at noon.
Also on Saturday will be the kickoff for the Men's Rec division portion of the World Series.
The Northern Extremes from this region will be in Pool 'B' of the eight-team category and play three games on Saturday against Minnesota teams Cardinal Tap and Cerro Gordo and North Dakota's Knights.
Playoffs for that division begin and conclude on Sunday.
