The Couchiching Lady Raiders plunder their way into the semi-final with a win over the Northwest Bay Beavers.

The Raiders came out charging hard last Tuesday night with some aggressive base running and swiped multiple stolen bases during the game.  It could have been a costly strategy for the Raiders as they tried stretching out for extra bags led directly to three outs.

During the third inning, the Raiders gave the crushing blow as they scored nine runs and put the game out of reach for the Beavers.

Grace Bragg led the offensive charge for the Raiders as well as on the mound by picking up the win pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts.

The Beavers Darcy Smith was unable to earn the victory and build upon her ten wins which were the most in the league during the regular season.

Shae Smith continued to show off her power and speed late in the game as she hit a solo home run for the Beavers.

Nitasha Bryant and Summer Leonard countered for the Raiders each hitting a home run.

The Raiders want to keep up the momentum as their offence will be in tough against the top-ranked Renegades which only surrendered a league-low 55 runs during the regular season.

The semi-final game will start at 6 p.m. this evening at the Barwick Ball Park as the Fort Frances Her-icanes await the winner in a possible two-game final.

Meanwhile, men's action resumed Thursday night after the game between Stratton and the Sabaskong Lakers on Aug. 13 was called off due to darkness and ended in a 1-1 draw.

It was a very close game once again, but Stratton proved themselves as the better team elimination the Lakers with a 5-3 win.

Moddy Kelly's home run was not enough to help the Lakers advance.

As Aiden Tom and Guy Arpin were equal to the challenge as they each slugged a home run for Stratton. Arpin also came out on top of the pitching duel grabbing the win over James Yerxa.

The Barwick Blue Knights await Stratton in the West Division final as the two teams will meet tomorrow night.

Stratton looks to switch the results against Barwick as they fell to them earlier in the playoff bracket and will try to force a second game with a win.
