Revco beaten twice

Revco started down a man but still managed to take a lead at one point in the opening game of Fort Frances Men's Basketball League action Tuesday night.

But a combination of missed free throws, bad passes, poor shot selection, and a stolen ball in the final minutes ended up being their downfall as they fell 43-39 to BDO.

Aaron Bujold had 14 points to lead Revco while Conrad Dueck chipped in with eight, mostly off offensive rebounds.

Todd Richards led the way for BDO with 15, including two clutch free throws in the dying seconds to seal just their second win of the season.

Things might have been different if John Sivonen had been available for Revco, but he was absent to spend time in Thunder Bay with his wife and newborn twins!

Noah (three pounds) and Olivia (4.1 pounds) were born last Thursday.

Mom and babies are doing well, but we are praying the twins gain weight and get stronger so the family can return home to Fort.

In a game that started off incredibly slow (it was only 8-3 after 10 minutes), and was described as “some terrible basketball” by colour commentator Kevin Gemell, RRFN eventually picked things up a bit to nab a 45-32 victory over Arctic Cat.

After his record-setting performance from a few weeks ago, Sam Soderman struggled a bit around the net but still netted a respectable 24 points.

Arctic Cat, meanwhile, spread the points around evenly, with all seven of their players getting on the board.

Kobi Ward, coming back from injury, led the team with eight points.

Then with Josh Mastin coaching/scorekeeping on the side while recovering from a severely-sprained ankle, it was up to the rest of his Sunset Landscaping team to carry the load in the absence of his usual 20+ points per game.

Mark Heyens took it upon himself to fill the void and led his team to a 50-38 victory over Revco by scoring a game-high 24 points in the night's third game.

Cody Johnson added 16 points in support, including four deep “threes.”

Aaron Bujold had a great game for Revco, putting up 23 points including five “threes,” but the offence from the rest of the team just wasn't there.

The game was tied 22-22 at halftime, but Sunset went on a 22-3 run before a few baskets started dropping for Revco once again.

There are two weeks of regular-season action left.

In looking at the schedule, the match-ups for the last week may be changed so we can get the seeding right for the playoffs and avoid having Sunset and Arctic Cat play each other two weeks in a row.

We will keep you updated on that.
