The Fort Frances Girls'/Women's Hockey Association had two teams compete at the Larry Bowen Memorial Tournament over the weekend in Kenora.
The Fort Frances PeeWee Venom went undefeated en route to capturing the tourney title with a 2-1 shootout win over the Kenora Reapers in the final.
The Venom battled to a 2-2 tie with the Reapers earlier in the tournament, which set the stage for the gold-medal rematch between the teams.
Alicia Kress opened the scoring for the Venom in the first period but Kenora responded with a tally of its own in the second.
Despite dominating play, the Venom were unable to net the go-ahead goal and the game was tied 1-1 heading into overtime.
A five-minute, 3-on-3 frame failed to solve anything so the game moved to a shootout.
Piper Miller and a Kenora shooter both scored in the first round of shooters, setting up a sudden-death round.
Kassidy Gurniak was the next shooter for the Venom and made no mistake as she went top shelf, glove-side on the Kenora goalie.
Alexa Yerxa then stoned the final Kenora shooter to secure the championship.
The Fort Frances Atom Black Knights, meanwhile, ended round-robin play with a win against the St. Vital Chill and losses against two of the host teams from Kenora.
That set up a consolation game against the Dryden Rampage, which saw the teams trade goals to wind up tied at 3-3 at the end of regulation time.
Dryden scored the winning goal with just under two minutes left in the overtime session to send the Black Knights to a heartbreaking loss.
Kallie Boshey notched two of the three goals for Fort Frances while Shayna Shute and Harper Gunderson provided some solid goaltending.
