Keighan Gerrie, Jacob Brown, and Kyle Auger combined for nine points to pace the league-leading Thunder Bay North Stars to a 9-1 romp over the visiting Fort Frances Lakers on Tuesday night.
Thunder Bay (47-4-1-1) roared out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals by Maxime Fortin, Jayden Mrakic, and Ben Erwin.
The Lakers got one back at 18:26 on Noah Loveday's eighth of the season, with Brett Hahkala and Jaedin Ness drawing the assists.
But the North Stars broke it open in the second by tacking on three more markers off the sticks of Brendan Gillis, Gerrie, and Matthew Halushak to make it 6-1 after 40 minutes.
Jonathan Kilby, Ryan Mignault, and Brown all bulged the twine in the third to round out the scoring.
Auger finished with three assists for Thunder Bay while Dougie Newhouse made 26 saves to earn the win.
Jacob Gnidziejko started for the Lakers and allowed five goals on 24 shots to suffer the loss.
Matt Booth stopped 31-of-35 attempts in more than 37 minutes of relief.
The fifth-place Lakers (17-34-2-1) resume action tomorrow night when they host the fourth-place Dryden GM Ice Dogs (29-20-4-2).
Then they'll conclude the SIJHL's regular season the following night when they welcome the second-place Red Lake Miners (36-15-3-0).
Both games go at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
