A great year so far for members of the Mighty Mustang youth wrestling program in International Falls just became a whole lot better.
Some wrestlers qualified for the Minnesota Jaycee's State Youth Wrestling Tournament, which is slated for this Friday and Saturday in Grand Rapids Mn.
The squad qualified by putting on good performances this past weekend at the Adidas Nationals in Independence, Mo.
A total of five Fort Frances-born wrestlers qualified, including twin brothers Jesse and Jonah Homer (kindergarten), Zayne Basaraba (Grade 2), Vai Lockman (Grade 3), and Hudson Mann (Grade 7).
Others who also advanced are George Boe (kindergarten), Jack Wolfe (kindergarten), Damien Juen (Grade 1), Teagan Green (Grade 1), Layla Reller (Grade 2), Avery Larson (Grade 3), Rodger Dueck (Grade 3), Aiden Juen (Grade 3), and Diego Christianson (Grade 8).
“Hudson was wrestling real good but had to medical forfeit due to his asthma in the semi-finals,” noted Mighty Mustangs' assistant coach Jeremy Mann, who also is his father.
“He ended up third, [and] it was a extremely fun and well-run tournament,” he added.
“This weekend caps our last regular tournament, and we also have a few wrestlers doing some freestyle and Greco,” Mann noted.
