The Muskie boys' hockey team sure knows how to reward their parents.
Hosting their annual “Parents Appreciation Night,” which saw every Muskie player get a photo taken with their parents, along with having a blurb read by the P.A. announcer about what they were most thankful for, Fort High exploded for four third-period goals en route to a 5-1 win over the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora) in NorWOSSA action Tuesday night at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The Muskies improved their league record to 9-0 with the win.
After a scoreless first period, Reed Bodnar put the black-and-gold on the scoreboard about midway through the second, firing home a top-shelf shot on a feed from Bryon Stewart and Eric Pitkanen.
But after the Muskies' failed to clear the puck out of their own zone, Mason Barclay fired a low shot past goalie Darian Klem on a 2-on-1 at 10:57 to even it at 1-1.
Jon Busch regained the lead just 1:35 into the third, with Jake Barker drawing the lone assist.
Barker then capitalized on a Saints' turnover and snapped one home, with Kendyn Faragher also lighting the lamp just 14 seconds later to extend the lead to 4-1.
Bodnar capped the scoring with his second goal of the night on a rebound after some sustained pressure in the Saints' zone.
Connor Nelson and Pitkanen drew the assists on that goal.
The Muskies were back in action again this afternoon against the host Dryden Eagles in a make-up game for the one that was postponed back on Dec. 5 due to inclement weather.
Then they'll cap the week by hosting the Red Lake Rams on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
