Muskie, Owl 'birders' qualify for NorWOSSA

The Muskie and Rainy River Owls badminton teams were able to have multiple players advance to the NorWOSSA championships based on their performance at a qualifying tournament yesterday in Atikokan.

Six Muskies were able to advance to next Wednesday's (April 17) competition in Dryden.

Players needed to finish within the top three of their respective divisions in order to qualify for NorWOSSA.

Tayah Badiuk and Lauryn Marchant teamed up to finish first in senior girls' doubles.

Brett Schram and Jake McKinnon nabbed second in junior boys' doubles while Dakota Jernberg and Ryley Booth tied for first in the senior division with a pair of Voyageurs' teams.

As for the Owls, they had nine players qualify for NorWOSSA.

Kirsten Armstrong wound up third in junior girls' singles.

Naomi Carradice and Caleb Jack-Gibbins were second while Kiera Govier and Joe Tiboni took third in junior mixed doubles.

Paige Stamler finished third in senior girls' singles while Madison Kreger and Tala Quran were third in junior girls' doubles.

Jackson Arpin rounded out the Owls' qualifiers as he was tops in the senior boys' singles division.

At the NorWOSSA championships in Dryden next week, players must place in the top two of their respective divisions to qualify for the NWOSSAA championships in Thunder Bay on April 24.

From there, the top two finishers in each event qualify for OFSAA, which is slated for May 2-4 in North Bay.
