Reed Bodnar scored twice to pace the Muskie boys' hockey team to a 5-2 win over the Red Lake Rams in NorWOSSA action on Friday night at the Ice For Kids Arena.
It was also the Muskies' annual “Teddy Bear Toss” game, in which they saw their league-leading record improve to 6-0.
Dylan Marino opened the scoring just over nine-and-a-half minutes in the first period for the Rams (2-4), but Sheldon Kelly tied it on a power play with 1:32 to go as he sniped one off the crossbar and in to send the teddy bears raining down onto the ice.
After a scoreless second period, Bodnar potted his first of the night as he weaved his way around the Rams' defence and snapped a shot off the crossbar and in over Rams' goalie Kyle Gelderland just 1:44 into the third period.
Fighting back, Red Lake knotted it at 2-2 when Landon Deschamps fired a shot past Muskie goalie Darian Klem with 13:22 to go.
But Bodnar then gave the black-and-gold the lead for good with 6:01 remaining as he fooled Gelderland with a shot from far out near the left side to make it 3-2.
Nolan Mann potted back-to-back goals within the last three minutes of the game to round out the scoring.
The Muskies will resume action tomorrow night when they host the Baudette Bears in an exhibition showdown at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
Then they'll head to Brandon, Man. this weekend for the Tournament of Champions.
As for the girls' squad, they'll next be in action this Friday and Saturday when they head to Winnipeg for the PCI Saints' Christmas Classic Tournament.
