The goals came fast and plenty for the Muskie boys' hockey team in its NorWOSSA season-opener here Tuesday night.
Eric Pitkanen led the way with a hat trick as the Muskies cruised to an 11-1 romp over the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora) at the Ice For Kids Arena.
Pitkanen scored his first of the night just over a minute into the contest, which was a precursor to how the night would go.
Brett Kenny made it 2-0 at 4:23.
James Gushulak then extended the lead to 3-0 with a beautiful end-to-end goal while the Muskies were short-handed.
Kendyn Faragher netted the Muskies' fourth goal of the period shortly after that, following up a rebound from linemate Cole Allan at 16:15.
The Saints notched their lone goal by knuckling a shot past goalie Darian Klem to cut the lead to 4-1.
The Muskies' offensive barrage continued into the second period.
Allan's shot from the point was redirected by Gushulak for his second of the game at 7:14.
Pitkanen then scored home his second of the night off a feed from Kaleb Bruyere and Reed Bodnar to make it 6-1.
Some great puck movement on the power play led to Pitkanen completing his hat trick later in the second.
Things didn't get any easier for the Saints in the third. Pitkanen found Bruyere with a cross-ice feed, who roofed it to extend the lead to 8-1.
The Muskies had a two-man advantage for 26 seconds but couldn't capitalize any further on it.
Allan later broke in alone and couldn't beat the Saints' goalie, but he stayed with the play and tucked home his first of the game on a wraparound.
The Muskies hit double digits at 10:38 when Bodnar fired one home.
Byron Stewart then threaded the needle on the power play to Allan, who made no mistake upstairs for his second of the game to cap the scoring.
The Muskies next will face the Kenora Broncos this coming Tuesday (Nov. 21) at 7:30 p.m. at the '52 Canadians Arena.
The Broncos then make a return visit on Nov. 28 for a 7:30 p.m. tilt at the Ice For Kids Arena.
