Mann wrestles well at a pair of tourneys

Category:

An impressive wrestling season keeps on getting better for Hudson Mann.

The eighth grader, who originally is from Fort Frances, wrestled his way to top spot at the Gord Garvie Memorial Tournament back on April 4.

Mann was part of a team of his friends that hail from Superior Wis.

“Hudson said it was extremely fun and that all the coaches from the club and college were super nice and welcoming,” said Hudson's father Jeremy Mann, who also is an assistant coach for the Mighty Mustang youth wrestling program in International Falls.

“Hudson also commented how the coaches were watching him wrestle and invited him up to train this summer. We will definitely be taking them up on that,” Jeremy Mann noted.

“The only way to become better and improve is to train with clubs. We are extremely limited with our location,” he reasoned.

“It's all about having fun and making important connections.”

Then at a tourney in Apple Valley, Mn. the following night, Hudson Mann placed third in Greco.

On the Saturday was the Freestyle competition, where Hudson Mann had a exciting match against a kid from a larger club in the Cities.

The pair put up 30 points up between each other, but it was Hudson Mann who came out victorious.

“Hudson's opponent was tall, so it forced Hudson to scramble more,” Jeremy Mann recalled.

"He just couldn't get a good shot. Hudson scrambles good and it won him the match.

“Hudson ended up taking third on criteria but wrestled good,” he stressed.

“The next few weeks we will be focusing on improving his level change, speed, and shots.”
